Marry me,” Johnny says to June. He faces the audience and tells them that he won’t finish the song until she says yes. He finishes the song.

A fine tune and a few good lyrics can also win over a girl’s heart. Robbie (Adam Sandler) plays a wedding singer who is madly in love with Julia (Drew Berrymore). He confesses his love on an airplane, singing a few sweet words, “I wanna make you smile whenever you’re sad, I’ll even let you hold the remote control, so let me do the dishes in the kitchen sink, put you to bed when you’ve had too much to drink, Oh I could be the man to grow old with you. I wanna grow old with you.”

Known for having a few memorable moments, When Harry Met Sally delivers an unforgettable “I want to spend the rest of my life with you” proposal. It only takes Harry (Billy Crystal) a couple of “I love that …” phrases for Sally (Meg Ryan) to fall madly back in love with him.

Not all proposals require a traditional approach, especially when you’ve been a runaway bride. After years of running away from love, Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts) does the unthinkable—she surrenders to fiancé Ike Graham (Richard Gere). Set in a balcony overlooking the city, she gets on her right knee and vows to love him for the rest of her life, resulting in an unconventional romantic proposal.

The icing on the cake is that the words she uttered were the same exact words Graham used when explaining to Maggie his ideal proposal.

When a series of boxes just doesn’t make the cut, a string may just do the trick.

In Stepmom, Luke (Ed Harris) wakes up Isabel (Julia Roberts) one morning with a kiss and an empty ring box. Declaring his love and commitment he says, “When two people love each other, commit to each other, it has to be an act of will—a decision…You have to hang on to that decision and the choice to love each other even if it’s only by a thread. I let that thread break once, this time I won’t.” He ties a string to her finger and slides the diamond ring in place. Now that’s a neat trick.

Setting the mood is key in any proposal and nothing screams romance like dozens of candles and roses. Pale pink and yellow rose pedals sway through the floor as Sarah Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) makes her way into her home to find almost a life sized gift box with a red ribbon and a note that says, “open me.” As she frantically opens the box, she finds a series of boxes diminishing in size until she opens the very last box, a tiny black suede ring box. Slowly opening it, she looks around and finds her boyfriend (John Corbett) entering the room holding a diamond ring as he whispers, “You got to say yes first.”

In true Cinderella style, “Big” gets on his knee, confesses his love to Carrie, and seals the deal, not with a diamond ring, but with a blue jewel encrusted satin Manolo Blahnik heel.
